What's on a marriage registration?
Typically a marriage registration contains:
- date and place of ceremony
- person performing ceremony
- names of parties
- their addresses at the time
- ages of parties (may say "full age")
- their marital status
- names of their fathers 9if known)
- their fathers' occupations
- witnesses
NOTESIf there are blanks in these transcripts, it's because they were blank in the original. e.g. a party may have been illegitimate, so no father's details are given, even if they were known.
I don't have full copies of most of these, only the extracts.
Compulsory registration started in England in 1837.
